Public health advocate, community steward, seeker, and monk
Serena is pursuing a life that remains attentive to the tenderness of a snail’s soft body and reverent to the miracle of its spiraled shell.
Working with Dr. Vivek Murthy, Serena serves as a Special Advisor for the U.S. Surgeon General and brings a spiritual understanding to the public health crisis of loneliness and disconnection. As a chaplain-in-training, Serena is pursuing questions of how we chaplain the end of extractive systems that isolate communities from themselves and one another. She is involved with emerging spiritual and monastic communities and spends increasing time re-learning the languages of her ancestral spiritual lineages. Serena supports CoGenerate, the Nearness, and Springtide Research Institute as a Board or Advisory Member. Serena is sustained by deepening ancestral connection, intergenerational friendship, oceanic water, and troupes of redwood trees.
