JOHN LOUGHNANE, MD

Entrepreneur in Residence, CoGen Health Corps

John Loughnane, MD graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed a residency in Family and Community Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Care.

John’s clinical background is diverse, with time spent as a primary care provider at two community health centers in Massachusetts and a practice in Vermont. He then transitioned to hospitalist medicine and was Chief Hospitalist at Quincy Medical Center.

In 2009, he joined Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCAs), a visionary leader in the care of dual eligible (Medicare and Medicaid) patients. His roles included Medical Director of Life Choices, CCAs primary care group and palliative care program, which he founded. During his time at CCA he also served as Chief Medical Officer, Chief of Innovation and Acute Care Services, and co-founded the CCA venture accelerator Winter St Ventures. His work on the CCA’s Community Paramedicine program was recognized in Modern Healthcare first 25 Top Innovators.

After leaving CCA in 2019, John became an end-of-life doula and co-founded of Present for You, a serious illness doula company that provides care for patients via direct to consumer and hospice partners. John is also the Co-Founder and former CMO of Gather Health – a socially focused primary care practice in Massachusetts for patients over 65 that has four clinics in Massachusetts.

John’s hobbies include time well spent with his wife and his two dogs and cats. He is an active kayaker and bicyclist after retiring from his decades long passion for running.
